Many Earth Based religions use the phases of the moon to determine the optimum  time to perform magic.   In general these are the phases of the moon and what they mean.
  1. New Moon - This time is thought to be best for personal growth and healing.  The new moon is also considered a perfect time to start a new project or engage in a new venture.
  3. Waxing Moon - This is the period between the New Moon and the Full Moon.  This is a good time to work attraction magick.
  5. Full Moon - This is the time for banishing unwanted influences in your life.  This is also the time for protection.  It is generally believed that the period of full moon influence lasts for seven days.  Three days before the full moon, the night of the full moon and three days after the full moon.
  7. Waning Moon - This time occurs between the Full Moon and the New Moon.  This time is considered to be best for rejecting and banishing things in our lives.  We can use this time to get rid of bad habits, negative thoughts and emotions.
  9. Dark of the Moon - This is the three days prior to the new moon.  During this period the moon is not visable in the night sky.  Most Earth Based Religions do not consider this a good time to perform any magick.  They generally think this time should be spent in reflection and rest from magick.
  11. Blue Moon - The second Full Moon to occur in the same calendar month is called a Blue Moon.  On average, there will be 41 months that have two Full Moons in every century,  so a Blue Moon actually occurs once every two-and-a-half years.  A Blue Moon is considered to be a powerful time to set goals and review the goals that you have accomplished since the last Blue Moon.  The next Blue Moon will be  November 30, 2001.>
